At Hurtwood we use Premier Pro as an editing software.
\
Within the software there are 4 different video sections. The top left box is used to preview footage/files. The top right is your film preview timeline. The bottom left contains your files and finally the botttom right is your timeline. We also learnt about the blue boxes which surrounds each of the three different areas within the screen of premier pro. To work within one of the boxes you need to make sure the section is highlighted in blue.
Next we learnt about the rule of constantly saving our work. So, you always have a backup of what you have done, incase something crashes etc. An easy shortcut is command S.
Understanding how to be neat and organised in your editing software will save you time in the future. Folders in P.P are called a bins. The term bin came from when film rolls where stored into separate bins for different scenes of the film. This industry term has carried over to Premier Pro. The first bin you should have is called rushes. Rushes contains a copy of the untouched, raw footage, so that when you're deep into editing and you just want to find the original take it will be in that folder.
We then learnt about the cutting tool which allows you to cut your videos and audios into small parts. The short cut for the cutting tool is C and the short cut for the arrow is V. Aside from this
In and out points are the parts of your take you select to put onto your timeline. A short cut for this is command I.
The + and - on the key board zooms the clips bigger or smaller so you can see the whole film in clips or zoom into be get precise cuts etc.
The short cut for undo is command Z. This is for incase you make a mistake.
We discovered that you need to be careful when putting footage on the timeline. If you put a new clip on top of another then it will over ride it. You also need to make sure the audios don't over lap. This makes it harder to change later on etc. Making this that clips don't over lap will make your editing neater and easy to work with overall.
