Today, I pitched an opening sequence idea to the class. I choose to do my third idea. I did this because we will be creating our own opening sequences in groups.
I realised for this idea that it is more the whole movie or second act rather than an opening sequence. In a way without the rest of the film the opening sequence is a bit confusing.
It is also not guaranteed that when you call the police a particular police officer will arrive, therefor her 'plan' isn't well thought through.
To move forward I thought about how this film would start. I would want to show that this women is deranged and mentally unwell while also hinting at the messed up relationship she has with her son. To show their relationship I could show a picture of her and her son, we he was younger.
My media teacher suggested that the opening could start with her son tided to a chair and the mother slowly bricking walls around him, while he screams for help. This could show her madness while also showing the idea that she wants the son to stay in her home forever, even if that ends with him suffocating inside.
